Where they go vs. where they came from

Most of our rescued dogs are abandoned at animal shelters. Very few arrive with a detailed history. Most arrive lacking training, adequate socialization and handling. While in foster care, we put a foundation under the dogs on which to build. Training and socialization are an on-going commitment. Dogs that are not taken off-property for leash walks have limited exposure to new things. Socialization means making a commitment to taking one's dog to new neighbourhoods for walks, for walks with friends who have dogs, and to public dog-walking areas.

A rescued dog is not for everyone. The love that the rescue dog gives back is amazing, but the amount of work one must put into the rescued dog can be more than one anticipated and can require a lot of patience. If you are interested in a perfect dog that requires no work, we strongly recommend that you consider purchasing a stuffed toy. If you are interested in a dog you may watch from the kitchen window but not allow in the house, we strongly recommend planting a tree or purchasing a concrete lawn ornament. Dogs are social animals and need to be with their families.
