All our rescued dogs are implanted with an AVID microchip prior to placement. A microchip is about thesize of a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin between the dog's shoulder blades. It contains an ID number which is keyed to our name, address and phone number should the dog end up in a shelter or brought to a vet clinic as a found dog.

A microchip provides a permanent form of ID for each dog we rescue. We do ask that all our rescueddogs wear collars with identification tags as well and encourage identification be written onto the collar. Many dogs arrive at shelters with collars but no form of identification affixed to the collar. We don't want our rescued dogs to be in need of rescue assistance again. If you have pets, please ensure that they have proper identification on their collars at all times and that they wear their collars.

The Human Society of Ottawa-Carleton scans each animal that arrives as a stray for a microchip. The HSOC holds several Microchip Clinics throughout the year. The cost of the microchip, implantation, and registration is $40 (multiple-pet discounts are available). Proceeds from the HSOC's Microchip Clinics are used to benefit homeless animals in the Ottawa-Carleton region.
