Sir Dexter of Kanata

Poor, poor, Dexter, the hound dog no one wanted. Teaming with Senior Canine Rescue Society in Calgary, Alberta, Trinity of Hope Dog Rescue provided the local assistance to give Dexter a new lease on life. Dexter was originally adopted from a shelter 45 minutes west of Ottawa. His original family had him neutered (as required by the shelter) and then forgot to have his stitches removed. Two years later, Dexter was picked up as a stray by the by-law officers in Ottawa. The owners could not be bothered to come in and get Dexter. Dexter needed dentistry and was considered to be too old to go up for adoption. It was while he was in foster care that his stitches were finally removed. We were beginning to think that maybe his foster family would have to keep him when we got a call from a woman who wanted a houndX.

Dex's mom recently wrote:

"I continue to notice Dexter becoming more confident and relaxed....when I am upstairs in the family room, the two dogs curl up on their bean bag chairs.

I've noticed often if I leave the room and come back and say "Hi Dex" his tail starts to wag even while lying down!  He'll come a sit or lie beside me when I'm at the computer...and his tail wags so much more often.

When we come in from a walk, he sits nicely and waits for me to remove his leash and wipe his feet. Then he trots off behind Bean to the kitchen for his treat.  He even knows the word "treat" and will come up of the couch for one (ya, no mean feat!!)  I'm afraid that it is definitely Bean's influence!!

He even slept on my bed a couple of nights, and when I tried to push him over, or put my feet under him, he didn't talk back as often as he used to.

He is one of my better life decisions!!"
